The various chapters of Metal Riffology are preceeded by short musical examples which show selected riffs in the context of an arrangement with bass and drums, as is example 96. The intro and outro music also use riffs from the lessons.

Styles of music range from "hair metal" and party rock (Dokken, Motley Crue, Winger...) to death metal (Obituary, Deicide), black metal (Satyricon, Dissection, Naglfar, Mercyful Fate...), doom metal (Candlemass) and more! Please note that the bands are mentioned to indicate the styles of riffs and not actual copyrighted music which would require difficult if not impossible licensing to be legally included.
